We are a long established family firm buying and selling fine quality antique and later furniture. Peter Martin founded the business some 40 years ago in the picturesque East Berkshire town of Eton – in the shadow of Windsor castle and home to the world famous Eton College – and was joined by son Paul just over 20 years ago.
As of February 2010, we are changing the way we do business. Peter has officially retired and handed over the reins to Paul, but will still be working for the business on a consultancy basis. Also, we are leaving our High Street premises in response to changing trading conditions and an opportune offer. We will continue to trade from our nearby Eton store, however, while we search for a new permanent base. All furniture will still be available to view: you will need to make an appointment, but we’re very flexible and will be glad to hear from you. We will also be happy to serve you from our retail area at Rooms 3 and 13 of The Swan Antiques Centre, Tetsworth, Oxon (www.theswan.co.uk), and of course online via this website.
We continue to carry a large and diverse range of furniture for the home and office, in oak, walnut, mahogany and exotic timbers. All restoration is carried out in the traditional manner by our own skilled craftsmen. Our stock dates mostly from the 18th to early 20th centuries, although we also offer a few later, high-quality pieces of traditional style. Also, from time to time we may have a limited range of paintings, prints, rugs and objects in stock, depending on what fortune sends our way. With two buyers constantly on the road searching for stock there are always fresh pieces available for your perusal. And if we haven't got exactly what you are looking for, our extensive range of contacts in the trade means there's a good chance we can find it for you.
Peter J. Martin & Son are long-standing members of LAPADA (The London & Provincial Antique Dealers Association) (www.lapada.org), the premier antiques trade representative body in the UK, and CINOA (Confédération Internationale des Négociants en Oeuvres d'Art) (www.cinoa.org), and are of course bound by the codes of good practice of both of these associations.
We look forward to hearing from you.
